Haven’t done a Music Monday in awhile. Not really a reason, I think I just forget it is Monday. So today I am highlighting a band I frankly know very little about. What I do know is they have a song that plays on the local Christian radio station that I just can’t get out of my head. The music sounds much more like what is on secular radio than your typical “Christian music” and for that reason alone, I am a big fan. Here is the song “Let Go”, ie. the song I can’t stop singing in my head. I apologize in advance for its catchiness.
Now take your pic, add the band name and title to it, then post it.
Drumroll please. I am ready to introduce my totally rockin’ chick band.
wah, wah, wah. My rock band could not be more lame. Unless that fox somehow represents how “foxy” I am. I guess I won’t sign up for those guitar lessons afterall. Coincidentally, Nabil Ajrim happens to be a rockstar over in India. So he would probably be upset if I stole his name for my chick band. Back to the drawing board…

I haven’t done one of these in a while and this will be brief cause, can you believe it, my hubby wants his computer back so HE can blog. The nerve. Anywho, this song makes me want to crank my stereo as loud as it will go and dance. Maybe dance so freely that you would giggle a bit if you saw me. This is also a great song to download to your Ipod so you can listen to it while working out. Just make sure you don’t forget you are at a gym where people are watching and break into that dance I referred to earlier. Cause that would just be embarrassing. Sorry the video is ultra boring, it was all I could find. On a side note, I would really like to pull off the name Kiki. I am fairly certain I can’t.

How I have made it this far into Music Mondays without highlighting this group is beyond me. They are my ringtone for goodness sakes. Anyway, we are hitting gospel again this week cause the somewhere in my heritage there has got to be a big black gospel singing woman (Courtney, maybe we are related?). There is nothing like some gospel music when you are in the music to praise God. We white folks just don’t do praisin’ justice.
On that note, my all time favorite song by Mary Mary, as heard below and on my ringtone has got to be far and away, “Shackles.” My oh so white church in Chicago attempted to sing this one Easter. We don’t have a building so we move around sometimes for the “bigger” services and happened to share a building that Easter with a mainly African American church. Now we were a bunch of white chicks (and Courtney :)) singing a gospel song. Some of us have soul, but we were still no Mary Mary. Still, I will never forget looking out among a sea of white worshippers clapping politely off beat while seated and seeing a small contingent from the other church who had showed up early for their church service. By see, I mean unable to miss these woman standing up with their hands raised hollering out some “Praise Jesus” and various other worshipful noises. One of my best worship leading memories.
Anyway, the original doesn’t hold a candle to our version (ahem), but I defy you to remain seated (clapping slightly off beat) when this comes on. If you are in the privacy of your own home you are required to raise your hands and yell out a few “Hallelujahs” of your own. I will personally be doing the rap part at the beginning and end so don’t even think about it.

Unless you have been seriously living under a rock, I think you have heard of this guy (I mean the man was on OPRAH). But in case you have in fact been living under a rock, let me introduce you to Kirk Franklin. He is absolutely amazing! He’s got all sorts of awards to prove it. I don’t even know how to talk about this guy and do him justice. So I will just let his music speak for itself. BTW- his music is best listened to loud.

I am going way off the deep end with my Music Monday artists today. For serious, read my previous post. For crazy, check out this Christian crunk band, Family Force 5. If you don’t know what crunk is…you really should start watching So You Think You Can Dance.
This is another one of those more “stealth” Christian bands. Most of their songs aren’t explicitly about God, but they have positive messages. The cool thing is they play in a lot of clubs and non-Christian venues and use music as a way to reach the un-churched and still talk about God. They believe God is fun. Read more abou them here.
So here is one of Lily’s favorite songs from our local Christian radio station. I’m warning you, this is not your mama’s Christian music (no offense to your taste in music mom).
It’s a special Music Monday as promised. Today I am so excited to give you the opportunity to download an entire praise and worship CD for free. I know, how generous am I?
Actually, it isn’t my generosity. Our church worship team has put together what I (unbiasedly) think is awesome. It is all original music written by some super talented guys from our church and sung by some of the people I lead worship with there. It is possible my voice might even make an appearance from time to time. You can take bets as to which one I am.
You download the MP3s hereby right clicking on the song title and clicking “Save Target As…” to your ITunes or wherever else you keep your MP3s. If you don’t have an MP3 player would you like to win a copy of the CD? Cause I have one for ya. Just leave me a comment telling me your favorite praise and worship song. You can listen to the songs at the above link if you want an idea of what you are winning.
I will draw a winner on Sat. Nov. 17th at midnight. Good luck!!

Sorry I have spaced off on the last couple of Music Mondays. I apparently can’t keep track of my days. It is back though with an exciting cliff hanger. I have a VERY SPECIAL Music Monday planned for next week and there may even be a giveaway associated with it so make sure you come back. I know, the excitement is too much for me too.
This week, I am highlighting Bebo Norman. Doesn’t that just make you want to pop out a kid and name it Bebo. No, yeah, me neither, especially since apparently it’s not even his real name.
If you have been following my music tastes for any length of time, you might notice I am really a fan of honest songwriters. Bebo is along those lines. His music is the kind you can have on in the background and enjoy, almost forgetting what you are listening to. It is typically just really mellow stuff. But if you take the time to really listen, he has some powerful lyrics. That is part of the reason I like him cause he can really be enjoyed in either fashion.
In my opinion, his best work is on Myself When I Am Real, one of his earliest albums. He just released a new album and I have been hearing several of his songs on the local radio. This clip shows a few of his new songs. He also has a Christmas album coming out and I LOVE a good Christmas album so I may have to check that out too. Hope you enjoy yourself some Bebo.

This girl does not get near enough attention. Her music is so good and no one knows about her. You may have heard one of her songs “God Shaped Hole” in the movie Bruce Almighty. Her music is really diverse going from alternative rock to techno.
Her music is much deeper than some of the other “fluffier” Christian stuff out there. Not that fluffy is necessarily bad, but Plumb is a brilliant songwriter. She has also written for a lot of big name secular artists.
This video is for the song “Cut.” It’s sound is very much like early Sarah McLachlan. If you enjoy it, check out some of her other music.
