Some of my regular readers (all 10 of you) might recall that I went and had a spa day a few weeks ago after a particular bad day. What you don’t know is how frugally I did it. My tip for this week is how to enjoy some pampering on the cheap.
Many larger communities have various schools where students need to practice their craft on willing
victims clients. Where I live, I stumbled upon an Aveda school that offers haircuts, manicures, pedicures and facials. The prices are half of what you would pay at a regular salon. At this particular salon, all the students were seniors so I felt like I got a really high quality facial for a very reasonable price. You have to be willing for the service to take a little bit extra time because their work is being checked by a supervising instructor, but I felt like it was worth it for the price I paid.
My community also has a massage school and a culinary school. Both offer high quality services for a fraction of what they are worth. Be sure you are clear on what you are getting into. Make sure you know how much training the people performing your service have had. Also make sure you are clear on what recourse you have if something goes wrong. I have done this in a couple of cities and have found that both times the students were highly supervised.
I realize pampering may not be a line item in the usual budget, but I would encourage you to fit it in every once in awhile. You so deserve it!!
