Works for Me Wednesday- How to get a (safe) fake tan August 7, 2007

wfmwheader_162.jpg It’s summer and we all want to look like we just stepped off a beach in the carribean. I have tried laying out at the pool, but I think those days went out with my bikini because I tend to spend all my time at the pool chasing after kiddies. So I have to fake it, but we all know tanning beds are bad for your health.

So, how do you get a fake tan without looking like an oompah loompah? First of all, fake tanners have come a long way and no longer make you look all orange and streaky. For the body, it is best to exfoliate first and then apply as evenly as you can. Try to go really light on rough spots like elbows and knees. For the face, I think most go on pretty easily as long as you make sure to blend around the hairline and jaw.

My final tip is to use a little bronzer. You may have to play around a little bit to find one that works for your skin tone, but they are great for a sun-kissed look. You just apply to the cheeks, temples and bridge of the nose. I am amazed at how often people ask me if I had a day in the sun after I put it on.

Now you are bronzed and beautiful and fooling everyone into believing that what you do all day is lay in the sun eating bon-bons (cause that is truly what a SAHM does :)) For more tips check out Rocks in My Dryer.

  1. I’ve always been to afraid to try those self-tanning lotions. I just deal with my whiteness! But thanks for the tips. If I ever get brave enough…

And I appreciated the bon-bon comment. If it really was that easy, I wouldn’t be up at 12:20am trying to figure out the budget. I would have done it during the day while the children were behaving like little angels, contentedly occupying themselves. 🙂

Fun tip! We’ve got a pool and I have to struggle not to get too tan as it is, but I’m sure spray tanning is much healthier for you!

    Thanks for sharing.

Ha! LOVE the Oompah Loompah! I think I had that look a little bit back in high school with the fabulous tanning product Q-T. Remember that one??

I quit the tanning beds over 10 years ago…this is the only way to go these days! Great advice.
