The Diaper Diaries

but hopefully not full of crap

And so it begins… October 8, 2007

hockey-puck.jpg The season has started. I know there are many wives out there who have to endure their husbands love of sports. Many wives may even be fanatical right along side them. I would actually be, if my husband liked football. That is my favorite sport on earth. He won’t even watch football with me because I yell at the TV and trash talk to fans of the other teams.

I semi-enjoy hockey, but here is my beef. The season is like 2 years long and there are games every other night. And to be honest they often conflict with really important things like Grey’s Anatomy and Dancing with the Stars. The only good thing is that my husband is so focused on the game he hasn’t noticed I have stolen his laptop to blog. I say you always got to look for the silver lining.

I’m so thankful my husband does not like sports of any kind. He enjoys mountain biking, but as far as I know there’s nothing on TV to watch with mountain biking. We are not a sports family! We don’t watch or play anything. Pathetic. I take that back, my girls swim year round. But, that’s it. If our TV is on any kind of game, it’s because someone fell asleep and it came on during the nap :o)

I grew up with 4 men in the house who were sports fanatics. I think I watched enough sports TV in the first 15 or so years of my life to last me a lifetime. Except for the Olympics–I always love to watch those. Part of why I married Dan was because he’d rather watch a movie or just read books and magazines together rather than watch sports for hours on end on TV. And he isn’t in any fantasy leagues…oh, it’s so nice. I must admit I do enjoy watching tennis as well…hmm. And live sports games of any type are a definite yes (if there aren’t any concerts or theater in town) because I love to people-watch.

When I was in college, I remember hearing about classes for ‘sports widows’ so they could learn more about the sport that had taken their husband away. For the first couple of years we were married, I tried to be more ‘involved’ and asked my husband to explain the rules to football every season. Now, I know enough to ‘fake it’ and can talk to him while I am wasting time playing on-line in the same absent minded fashion he listens to me when I talk to him during a game. Lovely, isn’t it?

Oh yes…I am a HUGE football fan wife! Here in Australia, Rugby League is the only footy worth watching. My husband invites his mates around to watch games, and they are all resigned to the fact that I am front and centre on the lounge, and they can just stack themselves around me very much thank-you! And remember there is a lady in the room if you don’t mind!

I and my husband are both athletic and we enjoy baseball games and going to Tae Kwon Do- Korean Martial Arts together as well as doing ministry together. We really click and whatever he’s into athletically I don’t mind jus as long as steroids aren’t involved I’m happy.
